The Cover is not the Book!

There’s a well known expression
You only get one chance to make a first impression

There’s another that is not in favour
Never judge a book by its cover

Should one work hard to impress
Or not really take any stress

Biases are created in a thrice
And one has to pay the price

Do we really have the power to glance
Or is it that we’re taking a chance

So open it up and take a look
The cover is not the book

Mann ki Baat

As I was writing the previous one, I felt like changing it a bit

Bhaiyon aur behno Please vote me back
We’re the bestest party in the pack
I have lots of things to show
And on my laurels glow
Oh no no to ask me is in vain
GST and demonetisation have been a big pain

I believe in taking everyone ahead together
In great reforms India trails none other
Development projects are in top gear
Acche din are very much here
Oh no no that cannot be
distressed farmers and unemployed youth I see

Mitron what can I do,
To prove that I’m always working for you?
Reservations, triple talaq, and direct cash transfers
Are just a sample of plans I have in my charters
Oh no no don’t try to make me sway
And bidding you good morning I’ll call you another day

Wait! Don’t pay attention to what you hear about me
It’s the corrupt who want to get rid of me
Though I’ve been called a disaster
I’m not the accidental prime minister
Oh no no it’s not just what I’ve heard
My vision is not blurred

Aadhar and digital surveillance is for your good
My intentions are misunderstood
I am the chowkidar and protector
I will eliminate every terrorist and trouble maker
Oh no no these jumlas are effective tools
To make us voters fools

we will build a new India, put your bet on us
Do you have another option for your trust
You gave them seventy years, that is a lot
It’s only been 5 years give us another shot
Oh no no we know it’s a lure
We will not fall for it that is sure

The Voters Dilemma

Wrote this as a 1 minute script - inspired by the Spider and the Fly

Bhaiyon aur behno Please vote me back
We’re the bestest party in the pack
I have lots of things to show
And on my laurels glow
Oh no no to ask me is in vain
GST and demonetisation have been a big pain

I believe in taking everyone ahead together
In great reforms India trails none other
Development projects are in top gear
Acche din are very much here
Oh no no that cannot be
distressed farmers and unemployed youth I see

Mitron what can I do,
To prove that I’m always working for you?
Don’t give up hope, give me another shot
It’s only been five years and that is not a lot
I thank you, for what you’re pleased to say
And bidding you good morning I’ll call you another day

Wait! Don’t listen to what the others have to say
It’s the corrupt who want to keep me at bay
Think of the country and Use your intelligence
Do you have another option for your allegiance?
Oh no no maybe you’re right. my head is in a spin
I think I should help you win

Bahut Socha

बहुत सोचा के क्या कहूं ,
बहुत सोचा क्या कहूं,
"I'll get you the moon"
but it's about being true

बहुत सोचा क्या कहूं ,
बहुत सोचा क्या कहूं,
"you make my heart bloom"
but it's about me and not you

बहुत सोचा क्या कहूं,
बहुत सोचा क्या कहूं,
"your friendship is the life boon...
but it's incomplete without you"

Eighteen!

As we turn eighteen,
What a journey it has been
lets look back
and take stock

The founders dared to dream
a daunting task it may seem

from toddler steps
to larger leaps
from hey days
to grey days

The employees put in the effort
while advisors gave their support

As we turn eighteen
widely are we seen
lets not on our laurels rest
but continue to give it our best

we have miles to go
and promises to keep

Those Were The Days!!!

I wonder what got into us
We did not want to miss the bus
The terms weren’t very fine
But it was a Silverline

Sifting through the files
Working without smiles
The team did its task
With a plastic mask

We are not the kind
To just fit in the grind
In a short while
The team was all smile

Gale and TAF
Were but a laugh
At tea and lunch
We were a bunch

The work increased
It never ceased
With deadlines to keep
and nights without sleep

Soon there were new faces
working at different paces
It wasn’t easy
To work the lazy

There were differences
By different inferences
That tested our might
but boss wasn’t always right

Soon people were gone
One by one
Some for the stork
Others for work

As the chapter came to a close
We hoped friends not to lose
And say always
Those were the days

I wonder what got into us
Why there was so much fuss
Over the terms being fine
Now i’ don't even think in that line

Good Morning!

'Repetitive is boring
Come up with something new'
Its always what I’ve been storing
And those are just a few

so here I am giving it a go
its been long, will it come ?
I really don’t know
till I’ve actually tried some

when you wake up
you are engulfed by brightness
with your tea cup
you are filled with freshness

days that start
with a greeting from me
livens the heart
however tough the day may be

so… to a wonderful day
from me to you
in a spirit gay
Good morning to you!!!

Happy 75!

This one I had Ghost written for Nabeel... to wish his nanaji on his 75th birthday.
here goes ....
Mom and Dad wanted us to write to you,how you have made a difference to our lives,
your love and support. Your contribution to society and all the good that you have done.
But those are what they want to say... I have a small poem for you

I say not big things to you,
they are just few,
its not to remember in life how or what to others you have done,
its the day to remember how much it has been fun,

do you remember:
for a gift wait,
that you would get on june eight,

the wait for a holiday,
to go out and play,

the wait for the school opening bell,
to meet your friends and stories tell,

felt you what,
when cycle you got,

how happy you were when you finished school,
and thought college was going to be cool,

your first salary in hand,
did you feel grand?

what about when you met nani,
were you sharm se pani pani?

when they first put mommy in your lap,
did you in joy clap?

when you first mamu saw,
did you know he was going to study law,

1996 31st december,
do you remember?

when you saw adam, sakeenah and aliyah,
what went through your mind... yah?

and this surprise party today,
when everybody sang Happy Birthday!

... now nanaji from all of us here in bangalore: Happy birthday to you!

Why??

This poem was written (october 2005) in reply to the following mail, which resulted out of a mail giving information about a theatre workshop. (I just remembered it in Rangashankara yesterday night while watching "The Ungrateful man")

WHY???>Why do people who take part in a play at the age of six think they are>experts in drama and must offer training workshops?>Why do people think that they are qualified to run drama training workshops>with a fee?>Why do people repackage party games in so many different ways and dish them>out in the name of drama training for personality development?>Why is drama related training becoming so cheapified?

this was my reply

Why?
Ask my friends, I

Why Not?
Is the answer, I got

At six, they were on stage
and you,were of playing age

training with a fee
since lunch is never free

repackaged it is an art
for the unknowing heart

with disgust you say, it is cheapified
with the trust they pay, it is glorified
